DIV ONE PLAYING CATCH-UP……

It’s make or break time for the Division One sides and none more so than the games featuring Arden Griffins and Tile Hill Trojans 1.

Several postponements have led to the teams playing “catch-up” as the league season reaches its climax, and both Griffins and Trojans were in action this week. They both won as expected and the final game of the season is now confirmed as 2nd April when the title should be decided – unless! JM Grizzlies march on in their quest for top flight status and they won convincingly at Tornadoes as nearest rivals Nuneaton 1 hammered their second team at Jubilee.  Westwood did likewise when they entertained Rebels and Ernesford Eagles play host to Leamington 2 tonight. AFTER ANOTHER VICTORY  –  CAN FLAMES MAKE THE PLAY-OFFS?

         WARWICKSHIRE HAWKS 83 – 90 COVENTRY FLAMES

Coventry Flames flew the flag for the City as they took on Warwickshire Hawks in the most local of all derbies, and took the honours too with a seven-point victory at Moreton Morrell. Looking back, just a few weeks ago, Hawks were flying themselves and were in contention for the play-offs, but a sudden dip in form has seen them crash towards the basement of the table, while Flames have been motoring the other way, slipping up on the odd occasion, but they now stand in a creditable sixth position and are hoping they can pull it off in their last five games. Their shock defeat at Derbyshire Arrows recently might come back to haunt them though as they continue their drive for promotion. The game against Hawks was expected to follow a similar path to the last time the pair met back in November, but unlike then when Hawks won 94-73  it was Flames who took the points despite a last-ditch attempt by the home side to grab something from the match.

With little to choose throughout the fixture, Flames had built a 71-60 lead as they entered the final quarter and it was all too much for the jaded home team despite 22 from Curtis Hadley and 17 from Mark Larner.

This weekend Hawks have the chance to get back into winning mode as it is their turn to host Arrows, with a 5pm tip-off on Saturday night. Flames move home to Coventry University Sports Centre on Sunday when they receive Derby Trailblazers (4.30pm)
