Nuneaton net titles!
It was two Nuneaton sides who this week claimed some silverware, with Nomads and Predators both taking home trophies!
In the Handicap Shield, Predators managed to cling on to their league-issued deficit by the slimmest of margins, as Division One stalwarts Arden Griffins came within just four of toppling their Division Two opponents – but couldn’t quite manage it.
Meanwhile, in the second division, it was Nuneaton Nomads seeing success as they officially claimed the league title to finish off a season full of twists and turns!
Congratulations to both teams!

Are you a Level 2 coach?
Coventry Wheelchair basketball club are losing two of their coaches this month so will be unable to continue one of their practice sessions without insurance cover.
You don’t need to be a wheelchair user or experienced wheelchair player to coach the people in the Thursday session just understand ball skills and how to make the sport fun.
We have level one coaches in the process of qualifying but need help to keep our open sessions going over the summer.

Respect the ref!
Despite this message being in Bear Facts for some time now, some still seem to think it is acceptable to continually question Referee’s decisions.
The Committee are currently discussing further penalties for such behaviour.
This is a further appeal to players and spectators attending fixtures over the course of the current and future campaigns.
There have now been numerous examples of disrespect, heckling and berating of referees and table officials. All clubs are reminded that we as a league are struggling to recruit and retain referees and officials, and that this behaviour is not helpful in that. This behaviour also includes persistent crowding of the table officials during games.
Please ensure that players respect the call when it’s made, and approach referees to discuss decisions in the correct manner.
Note, referees submit reports to the league regarding conduct which is deemed as out of line, and punishments for players can and will be issued when necessary.
Whilst the league understands the intensity and competitive nature of the sport, IT DOES NOT ALLOW for such disrespectful behaviour.
Can all clubs please inform all players of this message and ensure that senior players and coaches hold their teammates to account regarding this.
Table officials
This is a reminder for clubs regarding table officials.
It is the responsibility of the home team to provide two competent table officials for every game, one of whom must be BE qualified.
They should be registered with the BE, and prepared to attend a Table Officiating course organised or approved by WBA if unqualified.
Match officials will be requested to report on the scoresheet should TWO TABLE OFFICIALS not be in place at the start of the game. Failure to adhere to this Rule may result in a fine being levied against the offending club.
This is a Rule that you agree to when entering the League.

Reminder: Re-training as a referee or table official
Fancy helping basketball in Warwickshire? Why not re-train as a referee or table official?
Both are crucial to having our league operate, and we’re always on the lookout for more! So, if you have the desire to give back to the game of basketball – please do so!
Online courses are available for both referees and table officials through Basketball England, and are available to those 16 years or older, with each one taking between 4-6 hours to complete. For those assisting Warwickshire Basketball, the league will reimburse a portion of the costs for these courses on completion of three league fixtures following qualification.
A call to players
The league has noticed a number of overly aggressive fouls committed by players across games and divisions in recent weeks. It’s vital that fouls committed outside the scope of sportsmanlike play will be punished accordingly by the league.
Not only do overly aggressive fouls (including elbows) bring the game we love into disrepute, but it also risks potentially serious injury to players. It’s crucial that teammates and coaches help maintain the standards of play regarding fouls and behaviour on-court.
Players are reminded that a disqualifying foul incurs an instant two-match suspension. Referee’s reports are also sought when fouls like this are committed.
Thank you to Coaches who have addressed this.
Scoresheet submissions
Clubs are reminded to please send pictures of scoresheets to info@warwickshirebasketball.co.uk or youthleague@warwickshirebasketball.co.uk in JPEG format as soon as possible after completing your fixtures.
Clubs are also urged to ensure scoresheets are filled out in full, with headings, quarter and final scores included.
The league is also aware that some clubs are not providing full equipment for table officials. Can clubs please ensure that foul markers, sound devices, scoresheets, scoreboards and possession arrows are all provided for officials to use properly. Clubs are informed that equipment is available to purchase on the BE website.
Player Registrations
Clubs in both the WBA senior and youth league are reminded that using non-registered players in their teams will result in a fine. Now the league has started, WBA will start reviewing licence numbers. Where these are missing or are just membership numbers, fines are now being imposed.
Also, in regard to the Handicap Cup, no player will be allowed to switch between teams in any cup, shield or other handicap competition without express permission of the league or competition secretary in writing.
