IT’S DÉJÀ VU FOR GRIFFINS!

The second-half of the season started as the first half ended with Arden Griffins, and Luke Hatfield (pictured) dominating things court-wise, this time with a resounding win over Aylesford Hawks. Leamington Spartans had to call off their visit to Tile Hill with more than half of their team still enjoying their Continental trips, but Warwick China Red managed to get six players back in time to entertain Tile Hill Trojans 2 who made them pay for their shortages. Tamworth Tigers enjoyed their return to the action with Neil Evans in sparkling form from outside the arc as Tigers left Rage floundering at Rawlett to go into second place in the table. JM Grizzlies blasted Nuneaton’s youngsters out of it with a “ton” of points at Jubilee and hooray for Leamington 2 who gained their econd win at the expense of Coventry Tornadoes as two other games were called off due to court problems and Eagles dare tonight as Nuneaton 1 come to town. Please note Aylesford Hawks tip-off time is 8.00pm NOT 8.15pm as previously advertised

HAWKS SLAY GIANTS AND FLAMES DOUSED……

Warwickshire Hawks bounced back to form with a thrilling away victory at Mansfield Giants after three pre-Christmas defeats in the National League Division Three. Hawks were led by Curtis Hadley who slotted home 31 points in a game which saw them leading 50-37 at half-time, before a great third quarter brought them a 27-11 domination of the Giants with an even final period closing the game. Mark Yates added 14 and Austin Dickson 11. They go on the road again this weekend with a fixture at University of Wolverhampton. For further information on Hawks Contact Alex Birch…………..Telephone 07525853423

Coventry Flames crashed to their sixth loss when they went down 57-79 at home to City of Birmingham Rockets. Flames struggled from the off and found themselves 24-15 adrift with ten minutes on the clock and an equally poor second period left them with too much to do to pick up anything from the game. After trailing 47-30, they made a fist of it after the break but COB were too canny and took home the points as Anderson made 17 and Samuel 11 for the home side.

GET REGISTERED NOW…….

All clubs are reminded that Warwickshire Basketball League Rules state that all players must be registered prior to 31st January and only those given special dispensation will be allowed to play in competitive games after that. In addition any person wishing to play in the handicap cup competitions MUST have played at least THREE league games for the side he wishes to play in.

 PLEASE – DON’T HIT THE HIGH NOTES!….

We have received a comment from two of our referees that they have once more been presented with a £50 note for payment for their officiating. Whilst this is appreciated, of course there must be some change given back and it was fortunate that the officials had sufficient money in their wallets to return to the club. Knowing that referees’ fees average around £20 we ask all clubs to ensure that they do NOT present such high currency in the future.

WALKING BASKETBALL TO START NEXT TUESDAY….

Walking Basketball, sessions begin on Tuesday morning at Woodlands Academy. The sport will continue  its growth with a series of one-hour programmes which will commence at 10am from 14th  January and will cater for the Over 50 age group of players. It is hoped to get people “ off the couch” and into some activity so the Walking Basketball will be targeting beginners or people who have not played for many a year and wish to get going again. The cost is £4 and spaces are limited so if you know anyone who might be interested in joining up tell them to e mail for further details …… info@trojansbasketball.co.uk.
