MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL!

On behalf of the Warwickshire Basketball League THE BEAR FACTS sends Christmas wishes to all our players, coaches, table officials, referees and team followers.

Many games have taken place since we began the season back at the end of September and both of our Divisions house just one unbeaten team, with Arden Griffins leading the way in Division One and, JM Grizzlies holding on to their 100% record in the Second.  We are grateful to the Clubs who have sent us action and team photographs and we like this one of Sean Maudsley scoring for Nuneaton 1 last week against Westwood Rhinos. Lloyd has kept us well stocked with pictures and we would love to receive more from the other sides.

The games get underway again on Monday 6th January so there is little itme to relax, but whatever you are doing over the festive period we wish you a happy and   peaceful time.

HAWKS AND FLAMES BOTH SLIP UP……

There was no Christmas cheer in either camp as both Warwickshire Hawks and Coventry Flames lost out in a busy weekend.

Hawks’ Mark Larner said “We were awful particularly in the final quarter when we just could not find the net.” But the damage was done in the opening half when the Warwickshire side trailed 47-33. A rally in the third quarter gave them some hope and they actually took the lead, but once it got tough in the fourth Hawks hit the buffers and Birmingham Mets cashed in. Tom Grayling led Hawks on 22 with Curtis Hadley one back on 21.

They go on the road again this weekend with a fixture at Derby Trailblazers on Sunday.

Coventry Flames headed north to Sheffield on Saturday, but returned home pointless after losing to Sabres 87-79, before on Sunday afternoon they entertained league-leaders Doncaster Eagles and suffered a similar fate, going down 70-81. They now face the daunting task of yet another trip to Yorkshire tomorrow (Saturday) when they meet up with last week’s opponents Doncaster in the return match.
