RHINOS STUN 100% GRIZZLIES

Westwood Rhinos, without Jack Ford stunned the previously unbeaten favourites for promotion from Division Two with a superb performance which brought them a 57-52 win. Tile Hill Trojans 3 came close to their first-ever hundred as they struck at Nuneaton 2 in a double-header in which they also managed to beat the handicap where they needed to win by 30 plus. Ernesford will be looking to follow up their home win over Leamington last Friday with another at Grace Academy, this time versus Nuneaton 2 tonight. In Division One Trojans 1 hit Leamington’s first team for six and a few more following their five-man blitz at Rugby last Friday, whilst Rage try to recover at home to Aylesford Hawks tonight.

Meanwhile a sterling effort from Tigers was not enough to stop Hawks going through in the Handicap Cup semi-final who made it in the final minute.

JUSTIN’S GIANT LEAP IS ONE SMALL STEP FOR MAN….

Justin Hoskins (pictured), likeable player/coach at Coventry Tornadoes is taking a big step for charity on 17th May. He is stepping out of an aeroplane at 10,000 feet to do a sky-dive and is looking to get some financial support for his giant leap for his chosen charity The Alzheimer’s Society. Justin said, “This charity is really close to my heart as my grandad had Alzheimer’s and in memory of him I want to raise lots of money towards the cure.” He went on, “I can guarantee you will hear me scream like a girl, so surely THAT is worth a tenner!”

ROLES REVERSED IN NATIONAL LEAGUE…

Warwickshire Hawks bounced back on the Division Three victory trail last weekend with a 101-89 win over bottom-placed Derbyshire Arrows U23. Despite not having a full squad, Hawks picked themselves up from their recent run of poor form and, after trailing the first quarter 25-26, took control of the game in the second and third, which saw them leading 82-65 going into the final period. Arrows tried gamely to strike gold but with little success as Curtis Hadley led the Moreton Morrell-based side home with 30 points as Scott Owen showed his mettle with 24. Hawks travel to Stourport on Sunday where they are looking for revenge over Spartans to whom they lost by a solitary basket in November.

**********************

It was down to earth though for Coventry Flames, who crashed 71-101 to Derby Trailblazers II at Coventry University. Flames started on the back foot as Derby hit them hard with an opening quarter of 32-19, and when they followed this with another reversal Flames found themselves 58-36 adrift at the half. Trailblazers went on the record another two period successes to leave Coventry on the floor and the wrong end of a big scoreline despite 24 form L Creary. They go on the road tomorrow with a visit to City of Birmingham and they will be hoping for a better performance than they gave a few weeks ago when COB took them 79-57.
