Coventry Tornadoes had something to cheer about this week as both their first and their young second teams went through in their cup competitions. Tile Hill Trojans 1 destroyed Warwick China Red for the second week running to move to the final of the Bob Castledine Handicap Cup where they will meet Aylesford or Tamworth. Arden Griffins meanwhile sauntered through in the Plate at Leamington Spartans, with Trojans 2 squeezing past Rugby in a thriller..Westwood Rhinos shocked JM Grizzlies in a close finish at The Bridge but JM could go through as the best losing side (see details below).
CUPS – PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY….
OK, so we are through to the latter stages of the Handicap Cup Competitions and this is how they will work:
Division One (the easy bit) – 8 teams contested Round 1. Four went into the semi- finals with the four losing sides into the Plate competition. The winning sides will contest both finals.
Division Two – 10 teams entered The Challenge Cup, including guests Tornadoes 2. Five winners (Grizzlies, Spartans 2, Rebels, Rhinos and Eagles) went into the second round along with the team with the smallest losing margin – Tornadoes 2.
These six qualifying teams from Round 1 played each other this week with the winners and the team with the smallest losing margin moving into the Challenge Cup semi-finals. The remaining four losing sides from Round 1 (Trojans 3, Tornadoes 1, Predators 1 and Predators 2) are meeting in the Plate Qualifier for a place in the Plate semi-finals.
The remaining two losing sides from the Challenge Cup Round 2 will go into the Plate semi-finals where they meet the winning sides from the Qualifier. There will be more information after this week’s games.
ALL THE SEMI-FINALS TAKE PLACE DURING W/C 23RD MARCH AND THE FINALS DURING W/C 30TH MARCH.

HAWKS GROUNDED – AGAIN AS FLAMES SCORCH KNIGHTS……
Warwickshire Hawks crashed to another defeat, this time 72-86 at the hands of high-flying City of Birmingham who dominated all four quarters of their game at Moreton Morrell.
Trailing 39-45 at the half, Hawks never got their act together and despite 24 from Mark Larner and 15 from Matt Yates, they went down to defeat number eleven.
Flames, on the other hand have had a good season and sit in sixth place in the Division Three table. They travelled to Stoke-on-Trent last weekend and came back with an 83-71 win after trailing 44-36 in mid-game.
Our two leading local sides go head to head tomorrow (Saturday) at Moreton Morrell in a vital fixture for both sides which tips-off at 5pm.
