In a thrilling finish Tile Hill Trojans 2 took the biggest scalp in their recent past as they grabbed a two-point win over Aylesford Hawks. It was a good week for their first team too as they eased to a comfortable victory at Warwick China Red and Tamworth Tigers were too hot for Leamington Spartans 1. Last Friday’s game at Rugby was called off when everyone arrived at Harris School to be told they could not use the court as the roof-mounted backboards were mal-functioning. The game will now be rearranged for later in the season. we are assured that there will be no repeat tonight when Arden visit Harris

In Division Two Coventry Tornadoes crashed to their second successive loss, this time at Nuneaton where Predators 1 bounced back to winning ways. Their second string lost heavily at Leamington 2 after leading 17-16 at one stage, and Ernesford Eagles, having gone down to a narrow home defeat at the hands of Westwood Rhinos last Friday, slipped up again, this time at JM Grizzles who are riding high at the top, unbeaten but behind Trojans 3 on games played!

Our item last week about the growing problem of abuse to referees and the resultant bout of technical fouls being issued has prompted some comments from players, mainly centring on the fact that some officials appear unapproachable. Therefore we now make an appeal to all parties to take the heat out of any confrontations which might occur on court. Referees – will you please explain to the “injured” party when a natural break happens in the game – quarter end or half-time, to help them understand what you called and why. Players – please approach the officials in a respectful and controlled manner when raising a query. And we are sure you will get a courteous response.

HAWKS BOUNCE BACK TO DOUSE THE FLAMES……

Warwickshire Hawks bounced back from their recent poor results to V claim “bragging rights” over their local rival Coventry Flames. Another poor performance saw Hawks on the back foot in the first half when they could not get going and their teamwork was ragged and disjointed. However, a half-time meeting brought them to the fore and their second-half showing was out of the top drawer. They hit Flames with a devastating 31-19 quarter which took them from 42-37 down into the lead and they then followed this with an equally fine performance in the final ten minutes to land a 94-73 victory. Matt Yates once again led Hawks scoring with 28 with Ash Dickson on 24,Coventry Flames this Sunday at 2.45 when the local rivals meet at The Coventry Sports Centre.
